Description of cPanel Hosting
For your info, it's useful to know that most of the cPanel hosting offerings on the present website hosting marketplace are provided by a quite unsubstantial business niche (as far as annual money flow is concerned) called reseller hosting. Reseller website hosting is a sort of a small-sized marketing segment, which generates an enormous number of different web hosting trademarks, yet supplying exactly the same solutions: chiefly cPanel web hosting services. This is bad news for everybody. Why? Because of the fact that at least ninety eight percent of the web hosting offerings on the entire web hosting marketplace supply strictly the same solution: cPanel. There's no variety at all. Even the cPanel hosting prices are identical. Very much alike. Giving those who require a top web hosting service virtually no other web hosting platform/web hosting Control Panel alternative. So, there is only a single fact: out of more than 200,000 website hosting brand names all over the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2 percent! Less than two percent, mark that one...
200,000 "hosting vendors", all cPanel-based, yet distinctly labeled
The hosting "variety" and the website hosting "offers" Google reveals to us come down to just one solution: cPanel. Under hundreds of 1000's of different website hosting trademarked names. Assume you are only an average chap who's not very familiar with (as most of us) with the site creation procedures and the website hosting platforms, which in fact power the different domains and online portals. Are you prepared to make your hosting choice? Is there any hosting alternative you can decide upon? Sure there is, as of now there are more than 200k website hosting distributors out there. Formally. Then where is the difficulty? Here's where: more than 98% of these 200k+ unique web hosting brands across the world will give you exactly the same cPanel web hosting CP and platform, named in a different way, with literally the same price tags! WOW! That's how vast the diversity on today's website hosting marketplace is... Full stop.
The hosting LOTTO we are all participating in
Simple arithmetic shows that to choose a non-cPanel based web hosting corporation is a mammoth strike of luck. There is a less than one in 50 chance that something like that will occur! Less than 1 in 50...
The advantages and disadvantages of the cPanel hosting solution
Let's not be cruel with cPanel. At least, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and probably fulfilled all website hosting business preconditions. In brief, cPanel can do the job for you if you have just one single domain to host. But, if you have more domain names...
Negative Aspect Number One: A laughable domain name folder arrangement
If you have 2 or more domain names, however, be ultra cautious not to erase fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will call each subsequent hosted domain name, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domain names are very easy to erase on the web server, because they all are created into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the quite famous public_html folder. Each add-on domain name is a folder located inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to delete the files of the add-on domains, please. Check for yourself how fantastic cPanel's domain name folder system is:
public_html (here my-default-domain.com is located)public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)
Are you growing nonplussed? We undeniably are!
Downside No.2: The same mail folder system
The e-mail folder configuration on the web server is absolutely the same as that of the domains... Making the same error twice?!? The admin boys strongly increase their belief in God when coping with the email folders on the electronic mail server, praying not to mess things up too badly.
Disadvantage Number 3: A complete shortage of domain management user interfaces
Do we have to refer to the entire shortage of a contemporary domain name management platform - a place where you can: register/move/renew/park or manage domain names, change domain names' Whois info, shield the Whois details, change/set up name servers (DNS) and DNS records? cPanel does not supply such a "modern" menu at all. That's an immense weakness. An inexcusable one, we would like to add...
Negative Point No.4: Multiple user login locations (minimum two, maximum 3)
What about the demand for another login to use the invoicing transaction, domain and tech support administration menu? That's beside the cPanel login credentials you've been already given by the cPanel-based hosting corporation. Now and then, based on the invoicing transaction platform (especially built for cPanel exclusively) the cPanel hosting vendor is utilizing, the avid users can end up with 2 additional login places (1: the billing transaction/domain name administration tool; 2: the trouble ticket support platform), ending up with a total of three login places (counting cPanel).
Negative Point No.5: More than 120 web hosting Control Panel menus to memorize... promptly
cPanel offers for your consideration 120+ departments inside the web hosting Control Panel. It's a wonderful idea to get to know each of them. And you'd better get to know them briskly... That's excessively arrogant on cPanel's side.
With all due appreciation, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel hosting firms:
As far as we are aware of, it's not the year 2001, is it? Mind that one too...
